Jazz Work Shop was founded in 1971 and led by Albert Piamenta, a saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, and arranger from a family of Moroccan Jewish musicians. In 1973, they released "Mezare Israel Yekabtzenu," the first jazz instrumental album recorded in Israel. Piamenta gained recognition in the 1960s for blending funk, soul, and jazz with Israeli and Middle Eastern compositions. The album showcases his adaptations of Arabic maqams, Druze rhythms, and Jewish Hasidic music, aiming to liberate Israeli musicians from established American jazz standards. The quartet for this project included Dan Gottfried on piano, Jerry Garval on drums, and Teddy Kling on double bass. The album, recorded in one day at Koliner Studios in Tel Aviv, features six tracks of exceptional free-jazz. It was reissued by Fortuna Records in 2014 and Visart Records in 2015.
