Jean Carne is an American R&B, soul, jazz, and disco singer born on March 15, 1947, in Columbus, Georgia, USA. Known for her impressive five-octave vocal range, she began her recording career with her then-husband, a pianist, and together they released three albums in the early 1970s. Afterward, she provided backing vocals for various artists before launching her solo career in 1977. During the golden era of Philly soul, she collaborated with notable producers and songwriters. Between 1977 and 2005, Carne released nine studio albums and has dueted with several artists. Some of her highlights include songs such as "Was That All It Was," "My Love Don't Come Easy," "Don't Let It Go To Your Head," and "Closer Than Close." She has also covered hits like "If You Don't Know Me By Now," "Ain't No Way," "Love Don't Love Nobody," "Let's Stay Together," and "You Light Up My Life."
