Jean Genet (December 19, 1910 – April 15, 1986) was a prominent and controversial French writer and later a political activist. In his early life, he was a vagabond and petty criminal. He eventually turned to writing and produced a variety of works, including novels, plays, poems, and essays. Some of his notable works include "Querelle de Brest," "The Thief's Journal," "Our Lady of the Flowers," "The Balcony," "The Blacks," and "The Maids."
