Jean Knight was an American soul, R&B, and funk singer born on January 26, 1943, in Crescent City, New Orleans, Louisiana. She began her music career in 1965 and gained prominence after signing with Stax Records in 1970. Knight is best known for her hit single "Mr. Big Stuff," which reached No. 2 on the US charts. In the late 1970s, she focused on live performances, and in 1981, she returned to the singles market, continuing her recording career. From the 1990s onwards, Knight concentrated more on live performances while still releasing music until the end of the decade. Her distinctive voice and captivating performances left a lasting impact on the R&B, funk, and soul genres. Jean Knight passed away on November 22, 2023, in Tampa, Florida.
