Jean-Marc Foussat (b. 1955) is a French-Algerian experimental electroacoustic musician, improviser, guitarist, and VCS synths performer from Oran, Algeria. He is also a label founder and sound engineer. Foussat began his career in the mid-1970s, playing guitar and synthesizer in various experimental prog-rock groups, including Mandragore, Lézard Marçio, Phyllauxckzairrâh N° III, and Carte Postale. Over time, he shifted his focus to vintage portable analog synthesizers and musique concrete tape collages, leading to solo electronic concerts and studio work. In 1981, he completed his debut album, which featured experimental collages and studio recordings made between 1975 and 1981 with a VCS III synthesizer, piano, guitar, found vocals, and field recordings. This album was self-released in March 1983 through his own label and has since been regarded as a seminal work in the French avant-garde/musique concrete scene. It was later reissued on bootleg CDr in 2014. Foussat joined an ensemble in 1991, collaborating with notable musicians, and from 2000 to 2013, he was part of a free improvised group.
