Jean-Michel Jarre, born on August 24, 1948, in Lyon, France, is a renowned French composer of electronic music. He is the son of a film music composer known for scores such as Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago. Jarre is famous for his spectacular outdoor concerts that feature laser displays and fireworks, with three of these events listed in the Guinness Book of Records for their large audiences. One of his notable works, Musique pour supermarchés, was produced as a single copy and auctioned to support French artists. In 1986, Jarre collaborated with NASA astronaut Ronald McNair, who was set to perform the saxophone part of Jarre's piece Rendez-Vous VI while in orbit on the Space Shuttle Challenger, marking an intention to create the first piece of music recorded in space for the album Rendez-Vous. Following the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986, the piece was recorded with a different saxophonist and retitled Ron's piece, with the album dedicated to the seven Challenger astronauts. Jarre is also a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and was married from 1978 to 1997.
