Jean Ritchie was an American folk singer, songwriter, and Appalachian dulcimer player, born on December 8, 1922, in Viper, Kentucky. She passed away on June 1, 2015, in Berea, Kentucky. Known as "The Mother of Folk," she was the wife of a photographer and the mother of musicians.
