Jean Schwarz was a French composer and ethnomusicologist born in Lille, France, on May 20, 1939. He was a member of the Laboratory of Ethnomusicology at Musée de l'Homme from 1965 to 1999 and also a member of the Groupes de recherches musicales (GRM) from 1969 to 1999. Additionally, he served as a teacher at the Gennevilliers Conservatory of Music, located near Paris, from 1979 to 1997.
