Jean-Michel Jarre, born on August 24, 1948, in Lyon, France, is a renowned French composer of electronic music. He is the son of a film music composer known for scores such as Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago. Jarre is famous for his spectacular outdoor concerts, which feature impressive laser displays and fireworks, with three of these events recognized in the Guinness Book of Records for their large audiences. One of his notable works, Musique pour supermarchés, was produced in a single copy that was auctioned to support French artists. In 1986, he collaborated with NASA, planning for astronaut Ronald McNair to perform the saxophone part of his piece Rendez-Vous VI while in orbit on the Space Shuttle Challenger, marking an intended first for music recorded in space. Following the Challenger disaster, the piece was re-recorded with a different saxophonist and retitled Ron's piece, with the album dedicated to the seven astronauts lost in the tragedy. Jarre has served as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and was married from 1978 to 1997.
