Jeff and Jane Hudson are a husband and wife duo from Boston, known for their influential contributions to the art punk and electronic music scenes. They began their musical journey in 1977 with the band The Rentals, which disbanded in 1980. Following the breakup, they relocated to Manhattan, where they opened for the band Suicide and quickly signed with the No Wave label Lust/Unlust. Their debut single, "No Clubs," was released in late 1980, showcasing their lo-fi avant-garde sound as an all-synthesizer band. In 1981, they released The World Trade EP, further developing their post-nuclear electronic pop style. The duo reached their peak with the seminal album Flesh in 1982, which is regarded as one of the United States' significant contributions to the synth movement of the 80s. The album featured early Roland synthesizers and the TR-808 drum machine, with Jeff's lyrics exploring themes of technology and politics, while Jane's writing focused on cultural and psychological topics. The self-produced record has since been recognized as a groundbreaking LP of the post-punk era, with original copies highly sought after by collectors. Their discography also includes the Special World 7″ released in 1983. After ceasing performances and recordings in 1985, Jeff began directing music videos, and Jane produced video art while teaching at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
