Jeff and Jane Hudson are a husband-and-wife duo from Boston who began their musical journey in the art punk band The Rentals in 1977. After The Rentals disbanded in 1980, they relocated to Manhattan, where they opened for Suicide and quickly signed with the No Wave label Lust/Unlust. Their debut single, "No Clubs," was released in late 1980, showcasing their lo-fi avant-garde sound as an all-synthesizer band. They followed this with the World Trade EP in 1981, which further developed their post-nuclear electronic pop style. The duo reached their peak with the 1982 album "Flesh," recognized as one of the United States' significant contributions to the synth movement of the 1980s. The album featured electro-pop music created with early Roland synthesizers and the TR-808 drum machine, with Jeff's lyrics exploring themes of technology and politics, while Jane's lyrics focused on cultural and psychological situations. Completely self-produced, "Flesh" has been celebrated as a groundbreaking LP of the post-punk era, with original copies now highly sought after by collectors. Their discography also includes the Special World 7″ released in 1983. After a hiatus from performing and recording in 1985, Jeff transitioned to directing music videos, and Jane began producing video art, while both taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
