Jeff Tyzik, born in Hyde Park, New York, is a talented trumpet player and conductor who changed his name from Jeff Tkazyik in 1979. His passion for music ignited at the age of eight when he witnessed a drum and bugle corps during a local parade. Although initially disappointed to receive a cornet instead of a bugle for his ninth birthday, he quickly embraced it and began studying under a teacher who had performed with the Goldman Memorial Band in the 1920s. Tyzik's dedication to music was evident from a young age, as he often felt frustrated with peers who did not share his commitment. Encouraged by teachers and friends, Tyzik auditioned for the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under the mentorship of legends like Ray Wright and met Chuck Mangione. His time with Mangione's jazz orchestra allowed him to explore the broader possibilities of orchestral music beyond classical genres, performing for large audiences and co-producing live recordings. A significant turning point in Tyzik's career came when he collaborated with trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti on a concerto for the renowned Doc Severinsen, leader of the Tonight Show band. This collaboration led to numerous projects, including arrangements for Severinsen's symphony programs and the production of the GRAMMY Award-winning album, The Tonight Show Band with Doc Severinsen, Vol. 1, recorded in 1986.
