Jerry Butler was an American rhythm and blues, soul, funk, and disco vocalist, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, active since 1958. Born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi, he passed away on February 19, 2025, in Chicago. Butler was a former member of a musical group and had a long association with another artist. He co-wrote the song "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and has duetted with several notable artists. He collaborated on blaxploitation soundtracks and was also involved in politics, serving as Commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, from 1985 until 2018.
