Jerzy Milian was a Polish jazz vibraphonist, pianist, composer, arranger, and painter, born on April 10, 1935, in Poznań. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik and later in East Berlin. Milian made his mark in the jazz scene at the International Jazz Festival in Sopot in 1956, after which he switched to playing the vibraphone. During the late 1950s, he worked in a quintet and joined the orchestra of a prominent figure in Belgium in 1965. In Katowice, he established the Orkiestra Rozrywkowa (Light Orchestra) of the Polish national broadcaster. Additionally, he composed ballet music with a jazz influence. Milian passed away on March 7, 2018, in Katowice.
