Jesse Davis was a Native American session guitarist born on September 21, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was of Kiowa, Comanche, Cheyenne, Seminole, and Muscogee descent. Davis began his career playing in a country star's band in Oklahoma before relocating to Los Angeles, where he quickly became involved in session work, backing artists such as Junior Markham, Leon Russell, and Delaney & Bonnie. Davis played on the first three albums of a notable artist and built an impressive resume that included sessions with various musicians, showcasing his talent through standout solos on tracks like "Cajun Moon" and "The Weight." In the late 1980s, he collaborated with Indian activist John Trudell, creating music for poetry under the band name Grafitti Man. Despite his musical achievements, Davis struggled with addiction throughout much of his life and tragically passed away from an apparent overdose on June 22, 1988, at the age of 43.
