Jesse Otto Rodgers was born on March 5, 1911, near Waynesboro, Mississippi. He was a cousin of a well-known musician and sought to establish a music career similar to his relative's. By 1932, he was making broadcasts on border radio in Mexico, which had a significant reach across the United States. Following the death of his cousin in 1933, he was signed to continue in a similar style, as they shared comparable vocal qualities. Between 1934 and 1937, Jesse Rodgers recorded 42 songs on various labels, including those affiliated with Australia, England, and India. In 1938, as the popularity of the singing cowboy genre peaked, Jesse shifted his focus to western-themed music, changing his stage name to Jesse Rogers by dropping the "d" from his last name. This change may have been an attempt to distance himself from the famous Rodgers name while also aligning himself with another prominent singing cowboy. The decision behind this name change remains unclear, but it marked a permanent shift in his career. As Jesse Rogers, he continued to record on various labels throughout the early 1960s and remained active in radio and television into the 1950s. Jesse Rogers passed away in 1973.
