Jesse Stone was an American songwriter, pianist, arranger, and vocalist, born on November 16, 1901, in Atchison, Kansas. He spent his childhood in Kansas City, where he later led a group called Jesse Stone and His Blues Serenaders, which included notable musician Coleman Hawkins. As the Kansas City music scene began to decline, Stone relocated to New York, where he co-founded Atlantic Records with Herb Abramson and Ahmet Ertegun, contributing to many of the label's early hits through his writing and arranging skills. Stone passed away on April 1, 1999, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He was married to a singer. In recognition of his contributions to music, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010, both in the Non-Performer category.
