Jim Messina is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, recording engineer, and record producer, born on December 5, 1947, in Maywood, California. He began his career as a recording engineer for Buffalo Springfield's second album and later became their producer and bass player, touring and recording with the band until their final album was released. After Buffalo Springfield disbanded, Messina teamed up with fellow member Richie Furay to form Poco in 1968. He left the band two years later to partner with singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins. Initially intended to be a one-album collaboration, Messina and Loggins worked together for seven years. Since then, he has primarily performed and recorded as a solo artist, although he is currently touring with Loggins again.
