Jimmie Widener, known as "Oklahoma" Jimmie Widener, was an American western swing musician, singer, and songwriter. Born on February 15, 1924, northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma, he passed away in Seminole in 2001 at the age of 77. Widener is not to be confused with Jimmie Phillip Widener, also known as "Alabama" Jimmy Widener. Throughout his career, Widener worked with the legendary Bob Wills, as well as other notable musicians such as Spade Cooley, Tex Williams, and T. Texas Tyler. Although his solo career is less recognized, he left behind an impressive and high-quality collection of recordings. His sessions for King, Imperial, and other labels featured top West Coast western swing musicians, including guitarists Jimmy Wyble and Jimmy Bryant, steel players Joaquin Murphey, Noel Boggs, and Speedy West, and fiddlers Harold Hensley and Tex Atchison. Among his notable works are classics like “Jimmie’s Jump” and popular songs that were covered by other artists, such as “Wake Up, Babe” and “What A Line.”
