Jimmy Forrest was an American jazz saxophonist and composer, born on January 24, 1920, in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away on August 26, 1980, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Throughout his career, Forrest worked with notable musicians such as Eddie Johnson, Fate Marable, Don Albert, Jay McShann, Andy Kirk, Duke Ellington, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Count Basie, and Al Grey, among others. His best-known composition is "Night Train." At the time of his death, Forrest and Al Grey were the leaders of a musical ensemble.
