Jimmy Hughes is a US soul and rhythm & blues singer from Alabama, born on April 25, 1935 or 1938 in Leighton, AL. He began his musical journey singing gospel as a member of The Singing Clouds in 1956, often performing alongside his cousin. In 1962, he was introduced to the music scene by his friend Bob Carl Bailey, who was also an ex-member of The Singing Clouds. Hughes gained recognition with his 1964 single, which reached #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped establish the region as an R&B hub. He recorded several notable singles, including "I Like Everything About You" (1968), "Let 'Em Down Baby" (1969), and another single in 1971, all while signed to a record label after 1968. After 1971, Hughes stepped away from performing and recording to secure a government job, eventually retiring in Leighton, AL.
