Jimmy Wakely was an American country music singer, songwriter, and actor, born on February 16, 1914, in Mineola, Howard County, Arkansas, USA. He passed away on September 23, 1982, in Sylmar, California, USA. Wakely was married and was the father of two children, with whom he recorded and toured. In 1948, he achieved solo success with his #1 hits on the U.S. Country charts, "One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)" and "I Love You So Much It Hurts." He also had 11 other top 14 records between 1943 and 1951. In 1949, he collaborated with another artist to reach #1 on both the U.S. Country and overall U.S. charts with their duet "Slippin' Around," along with eight other top 10 songs on the U.S. country charts from 1949 to 1951. Wakely was a regular on Gene Autry's Melody Ranch radio show in the early 1940s, earning the nickname "The Melody Kid." He starred in several western movies, hosted his own radio show from 1952 to 1957, and co-hosted TV's Five Star Jubilee in 1961.
