J.J. Cale was an American singer, songwriter, and musician born on December 5, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. He passed away from a heart attack on July 26, 2013, at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, California. Cale was known for his influential guitar style and deliberately avoided the limelight due to his aversion to celebrity. His impact on music has been recognized by notable artists such as Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, and Eric Clapton, who regarded him as one of the most important figures in rock history. Cale is also considered one of the originators of the Tulsa Sound, a genre that blends blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz. In the late 1960s, he worked as a recording engineer.
