Jneiro Jarel, born Omar Jarel Gilyard in Brooklyn, is a producer and MC who spent his early childhood moving across the country due to his mother's career in the U.S. Army. He settled in Houston, TX, in 1985, where his cousin DJ Starr introduced him to hip hop. At the age of 14, he formed a group called "The Slum Kids" (also known as “Rhythmic Crew”) in 1992, which included members Aahtue and Nahuma. In 1998, Jneiro Jarel left the group and moved to New York. He gained recognition in 2003 when he was discovered by Public Enemy and opened for Julie Dexter at Hank's "Soul Vibration" event. Jneiro Jarel is known for producing a diverse range of styles, including Acid Jazz, Afro-Brazilian, Hip-Hop, and Broken Beat.
