Jo Ann Garrett, born on March 3, 1949, in Chicago, began her music career performing regularly at local clubs. She soon secured recording time at Universal Recording Corporation’s innovative studio, leading to her first single release by Chess Records, which performed well locally in the spring of 1966. Garrett continued to record at Chess studios and, in 1968, collaborated with Williams at a new company called Duo. Eventually, she retired from the music business.
