Jo-Jo Bennett was a Jamaican/Canadian trumpet and flugelhorn player, composer, and arranger, born on July 13, 1940, in Kingston, Jamaica. He passed away on August 3, 2021, in Toronto, Ontario. A graduate of a school in Kingston, he initially started playing the drums before becoming the lead trumpeter with a band. He later joined another group, recording several albums with them before relocating to Canada after their performance at Expo 67. In 1970, Bennett returned to Jamaica, where he released his first and only album, "Groovey Joe," while also performing live and doing studio work for various record companies. He returned to Canada in the late 1970s and established his own music label. In the early 1980s, he co-founded The Sattalites Music School and shortly after formed a band.
