Jo Stafford was an American singer known for her traditional pop music and jazz standards. Her career spanned from the late 1930s to the early 1960s. Born on November 12, 1917, in Coalinga, California, she passed away on July 16, 2008, in Century City, California. Stafford was married to a pianist and arranger and was the sister of two individuals with whom she performed as part of The Stafford Sisters. She was a member of a prominent group in 1938 and 1939, and later sang with notable artists such as Frank Sinatra, Joe Bushkin, Ziggy Elman, and Buddy Rich. Stafford established the Jo Stafford Prize in American Folklore and authored a volume titled "Easy Lessons In Singing." Admired for the purity of her voice, she was considered one of the most versatile vocalists of her time. Alongside her husband, she developed a comedy routine as a bad lounge act named Jonathan and Darlene Edwards.
