Joan Jett & The Blackhearts is a rock band that started in 1979, founded by Joan Jett and producer/songwriter Kenny Laguna. The original lineup included lead guitarist Ricky Byrd, bassist Gary Ryan, and drummer Danny Furious. After their 1980 European tour, Danny Furious was fired by Laguna and replaced by drummer Tommy Price. The band initially performed tracks from Joan Jett's self-titled debut album, which was self-released by Jett and Laguna on their new label. This album was later reissued as "Bad Reputation" after being picked up by Epic Records. While recording their first album, "I Love Rock & Roll," Ricky Byrd was replaced by lead guitarist Eric Ambel. Around 1985, Gary Ryan and Crystal joined the band but were replaced by bassist Mitch Marine and drummer Tommy Price. The following album, "Good Music," featured songs from before and after the lineup change, crediting all artists involved. In 1989, Mitch Marine was replaced by bassist Kira Roessler, and around 1992, she was replaced by another bassist. The band went on hiatus in the mid-90s while Jett focused on music production, as well as solo and collaborative endeavors.
