Joan Sebastian, born José Manuel Figueroa on April 8, 1951, in Juliantla, Guerrero, Mexico, was a renowned Mexican singer and songwriter who garnered multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. His career, which began in 1977, saw him become a staple on Mexico's top-40 charts, with a musical style that blended Latin pop, ranchera, and grupera music. In addition to his musical achievements, he ventured into acting, starring in the popular Mexican soap opera "Tú y Yo" in 1996 alongside Maribel Guardia, his former wife and mother to one of his sons. Despite being diagnosed with bone cancer in 1997, which recurred in 2012, Joan Sebastian continued to create music, showcasing his versatility and enduring popularity. He was the father of eight children from various relationships, including José Manuel Figueroa, who followed in his footsteps as a singer and composer. Tragically, two of his sons, Trigo de Jesús and Juan Sebastián, were murdered in separate incidents, which deeply affected him. Joan Sebastian passed away on July 13, 2015, leaving behind a rich legacy in the music industry.
