João Batista do Vale was a Brazilian singer and composer born on October 11, 1934, in Pedreiras, Maranhão. He passed away on December 6, 1996. At the age of 13, he moved to São Luis, Maranhão, where he began his journey as a composer and poet in a Bumba-meu-boi group. By 15, he traveled to Southeast Brazil, working various jobs as a miner, bricklayer, and truck helper. In 1950, he settled in Rio de Janeiro, working as a construction worker in Ipanema while showcasing his baião compositions to radio stations. His talent caught the attention of artists from the MPB movement, leading to his participation in the "Opinião" concert. He recorded his first solo album in 1965 and his second solo album in 1981, featuring collaborations with some of Brazil's greatest artists.
