João Donato is a renowned musician known for his work as a pianist and vocalist. His combo, João Donato & Seu Trio, has had various lineups throughout the years. In 1963, the ensemble included Amaury Rodrigues on percussion, Milton Banana on drums, Sebastião Neto on bass, and João Donato himself. From 1995 to 2000, the trio featured Jorge Helder on bass and Robertinho Silva on drums alongside Donato. In 2001, the lineup changed to include Claudio Slon on drums and percussion and Luiz Alves on bass. By 2010, the group consisted of Luiz Alves on bass, Robertinho Silva on drums, Sidinho Moreira on percussion, and once again, João Donato on piano and vocals.
