Joe Arroyo, also known as "El Joe," was a Colombian salsa and tropical music singer and songwriter. Born on November 1, 1955, in Cartagena de Indias, Bolívar, Colombia, he gained recognition for his powerful music and impactful lyrics. One of his most notable songs, “Rebelión,” tells the story of an enslaved man who leads a rebellion to defend his wife from abuse by a Spaniard, and it has been celebrated as an anthem for Afro-Colombians and black people throughout Latin America. Joe Arroyo passed away on July 26, 2011, in Barranquilla, Atlántico, Colombia.
