Joe Barry was an American swamp pop musician born on July 13, 1939, in Cut Off, Louisiana. He began recording locally in the late 1950s and released two singles around 1960. His second single, "I'm a Fool to Care," released in 1961, gained national attention, reaching #15 on the U.S. Black Singles chart and peaking at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song sold over one million copies by 1968, earning a gold disc, and also charted in the UK Singles Chart at #49. Barry's next single, "Teardrops in My Heart," reached #63 on the Billboard chart in August 1961. He left Smash Records in the mid-1960s to record for Princess label and frequently performed at venues like Papa Joe's in New Orleans and the Esquire ballroom in Houston. Disillusioned by royalty fraud, he briefly stepped away from music around 1967. He returned to record for the Houma label, but the new tapes were flawed and ultimately destroyed in a fire. In 1968, Barry worked as a session musician in Nashville and signed with Nugget Records, recording six tracks before leaving music due to a dispute with the management. Following this, he returned to work on offshore oil platforms in Louisiana. Barry made a comeback in 1976 with a self-titled country album, followed by an album of original gospel tunes, "Sweet Rose of Sharon
