Joe Gibbs was a notable reggae producer born in 1943 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He grew up in the resort town and later moved to Kingston, where he opened his first shop on Beeston Street in 1966. Initially selling and repairing radio and television sets, he expanded his business to include records, which helped attract customers. His background in electronics gave him the confidence to venture into music production, leading him to build his first recording studio in 1968 in the Duhaney Park area. This simple but effective two-track studio was modeled after the studio at Federal Records. Gibbs collaborated with various engineers and formed a long-term partnership with one of them. His studio band provided the backing for many of his releases, with notable members contributing to his prolific work in the reggae genre. Joe Gibbs passed away on February 21, 2008, in Miami, Florida.
