**Bio of Joe Pain** Joe Pain, born Ernest C. Trent in December 1944 in Harlan, Kentucky, grew up in a large family with ten boys and eight girls. His early musical experiences were rooted in singing at his local church. After serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia from 1963 to 1965, he learned to play guitar and reignited his passion for singing. Upon his discharge, Joe moved to Michigan, where he caught the attention of Paul Wade, who became his personal manager. A significant opportunity arose when Faron Young introduced him to Johnny Paycheck, leading to a performance at the Lucky Eleven Club in November 1966. Paycheck was impressed and offered Joe a one-year contract. In February 1967, Joe embarked on a week-long tour of the Detroit area with Johnny Paycheck. Shortly after, he made an appearance on the WWVA Jamboree, where he performed two songs and received enthusiastic applause from the audience. A fan's emotional response to his performance inspired Joe to adopt the stage name Joe Pain. Although he gained popularity and was signed as a regular on the WWVA Jamboree, Joe eventually had to resign due to an increasing number of personal appearance bookings in Canada, which made it challenging for him to return to Wheeling on Saturday nights.
