Joe Puma was an American jazz guitarist born on August 13, 1927, in the Bronx, NY. He passed away on May 31, 2000, in New York, NY. Puma began his professional career playing with Joe Roland from 1949 to 1950 and went on to collaborate with notable musicians such as Louie Bellson, Artie Shaw, Herbie Mann, Mat Mathews, Chris Connor, Paul Quinichette, Morgana King, Bobby Hackett, Gary Burton, Carmen McRae, and Chuck Wayne. Throughout his career, he recorded as a leader on over a dozen albums from 1954 through the 1990s. In addition to his work as a guitarist, Puma also served as a recording engineer in upstate New York.
