Joe Sanders was an American jazz pianist, singer, and bandleader born on October 15, 1896, in Thayer, Kansas. He passed away on May 14, 1965, in Kansas City, Missouri. Sanders led the Coon-Sanders Novelty Orchestra, which he formed in Kansas City in 1920, and began recording in 1924. After the death of Coon, he continued to lead the band under the name Joe Sanders Original Nighthawks until the end of the 1930s. In the 1940s, he worked in Hollywood studios, and during the 1950s, he sang regularly with the Kansas City Opera.
