Joe Simon (born September 7, 1936, in Simmesport, Louisiana, USA – died December 13, 2021) was an American soul and R&B singer, record producer, and songwriter. His professional career began in Oakland, California, with the release of "My Adorable One" in 1962, which achieved minor success. In 1964, he met a Nashville-based disc jockey who guided his musical path, leading to his first R&B hit, "Let's Do It Over" (1965). This song highlighted Simon's smooth delivery and the blend of gentle soul and country, paving the way for poignant tracks like "Teenager's Prayer," "Nine Pound Steel" (both 1967), and "The Chokin' Kind," which reached number 1 on the US R&B charts in 1969. In 1970, Simon moved to a subsidiary label and continued his collaboration with the disc jockey until 1971, when "Drowning In The Sea Of Love" became an R&B number 3 hit. He enjoyed further success with songs like "The Power Of Love" (1972), "Step By Step" (1973 - his only UK hit), "Theme From Cleopatra Jones" (1973), and "Get Down Get Down (Get On The Floor)" (1975).
