Joe Williams was a renowned jazz vocalist born on December 12, 1918, in Cordele, Georgia, USA. He passed away on March 29, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Williams was known for his baritone voice and performed a mix of blues, ballads, popular songs, and jazz standards. He collaborated with notable musicians such as Coleman Hawkins and Lionel Hampton before joining Count Basie's band in 1954. After leaving the Basie band in 1961, he led small ensembles, continuing to sing popular songs, ballads, and blues. In addition to his music career, Williams was a frequent performer on television, both as a singer and an actor. His album "Nothin' but the Blues" earned him a Grammy Award in 1984. It is important to note that he should not be confused with the blues songwriter/performer known for "Baby Please Don't Go" or "Billy's Blues."
