Joey Covington was an American drummer best known for his work with Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. Born Joseph Edward Michno on June 27, 1945, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was a self-taught percussionist who began his professional career in his early teens. Covington joined Jefferson Airplane in 1969, contributing to their classic album "Volunteers" and co-writing their final hit single, "Pretty As You Feel." He also co-founded Hot Tuna with bandmates Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. After leaving Jefferson Airplane, Covington pursued a solo career, releasing the album "Joe E. Covington's Fat Fandango."
