John Berberian is an oud virtuoso born in the United States to Armenian immigrant parents. His father was an accomplished oud player and instrument maker. Berberian first recorded traditional oud music with a violinist while he was a student at Columbia University in the mid-1950s. He has since recorded for various labels, including MGM, RCA, Roulette, Verve, and Mainstream Records.
