John Clarke, born on January 12, 1955, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a renowned reggae singer whose significant success emerged in the 1970s. He gained prominence after teaming up with a notable producer, under whose guidance from 1975 to 1976, Clarke became one of the most exciting new voices in Jamaica. His music features a compelling blend of militant "dread" tunes and love songs, enhanced by the contemporary style of the Aggrovators studio band, which quickly resonated with discerning dancehall audiences in Jamaica and beyond. Encouraged by his producer, Clarke covered classic Jamaican standards from various artists. Following this fruitful period, he continued to record for his initial producer and other diverse producers. In the mid-1980s, he laid down tracks at Ariwa Studios in the UK. Throughout the 1990s, Clarke recorded for different producers in the UK, including a successful production duo.
