John Elder is a New Zealand scientist, ambient music composer, and writer. In 1973, he served as a Senior Scientist at Scott Base, a New Zealand Antarctic research station located at Pram Point on Ross Island, near Mount Erebus in New Zealand's Ross Dependency territorial claim.
