John Foxx was born on September 26, 1948, in Chorley, Lancashire, England. He grew up in a working-class family, with his father being a coal miner and pugilist, and his mother a millworker. During his youth, he embraced both mod and hippie cultures, while developing an interest in album covers, Pink Floyd's experimentalism, futurism, and surrealism. His first band remains unnamed. In 1973, Foxx was in Manchester, performing with a 12-string guitar and supporting acts, but he chose to move to London, where he attended the Royal College of Art on a scholarship. He experimented with various music genres, including glam, reggae, synth pop, and industrial, influenced by notable artists of the time. Foxx left the band Ultravox in 1979 to pursue a solo career, releasing his debut album "Metamatic" in 1980, which showcased an electronic style derived from synthesizers. He released three more solo albums before taking a break from music in 1985 to focus on visual art. In 1990, inspired by acid house, Foxx briefly returned to music as a collaborator, working with various artists. He remained inactive until 1997 when a chance meeting led to a series of duo albums from 1997 to 2008 and a revitalization of his solo career.
