John Greaves is a British (Welsh) bassist, pianist, singer, and composer, born on February 23, 1950, in Prestatyn, Wales, UK. He began his musical journey playing double-bass and bass guitar in a school band for two years and was a member of "the Ray Irving Showband" from 1964 to 1968. Greaves found little musical stimulation at Cambridge until he met a significant collaborator in the autumn of 1969. After leaving Henry Cow in March 1976, he embarked on a solo career as a songwriter, singer, pianist, and bassist, often collaborating with others. In addition to his solo work, he enjoys participating in group projects, focusing on totally improvised music. In recent years, he formed a duo with an Italian singer/multi-instrumentalist and toured Italy with his own band, featuring various members.
