John L. Nichols, widely recognized as ‘John L’ and celebrated as “The Great John-L” in the calypso world, was born on December 17th, 1930, in Kitty, Guyana. In 1958, he emigrated to St. Croix, where he worked as a self-employed sign painter around the U.S. Virgin Islands.
