John Lafia was an American filmmaker, screenwriter, composer, musician, and producer, born in New York City, NY, on April 2, 1957. He was active in the Los Angeles underground music scene during the early to mid-1980s before transitioning into the film industry. Lafia's musical work is primarily associated with postpunk, electronic, and post-rock genres. In filmmaking, he is best known for his contributions to the Child's Play franchise, having co-written the original movie and directed its sequel. He passed away in Los Angeles, California, on April 29, 2020.
