John Martyn was born on September 11, 1948, in New Malden, Surrey, England, and passed away on January 29, 2009, in Ireland, at the age of 60. He was a British singer-songwriter and guitarist, known for his acoustic guitar playing that began in the folk clubs of the UK and later expanded into more mainstream genres. In 1970, he released two albums with his then-wife. In February 1973, he released the album "Solid Air," with the title song serving as a tribute to another singer-songwriter. Martyn was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours list. Some recordings may also be credited to him under different names.
