John McKay is an English guitarist and occasional saxophone player, born in 1957. He was a member of a band from July 1977 until September 1979, having replaced Peter Fenton. McKay left the band famously alongside drummer Kenny Morris just hours before a concert during the 'Join Hands' Tour, following a heavy disagreement regarding record signing at a local store in Aberdeen. His self-taught guitar style received praise for being innovative and inspirational from both his contemporaries and later musicians. In 1982, he formed the trio Zor Gabor with his longtime girlfriend and Dids, performing at the Batcave and occasionally supporting The Fall. They released one single in 1986 before the project faded, although they continued to play sporadic gigs until the late 1980s.
