John Phillips was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, producer, and promoter, best known as the leader of a vocal group. He was born on August 30, 1935, in Parris Island, South Carolina, and passed away on March 18, 2001, in Los Angeles, California. Phillips co-owned a home in Bel Air, California, and was instrumental in organizing the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967, where he served as its Director. He married Susan Adams on May 7, 1957, and they had a daughter who became an actress. Phillips later divorced Susan to marry another woman on December 31, 1962; they filed for divorce in May 1969 and had a daughter who became a singer. His third marriage was to actress and model on January 30, 1972, with whom he had two children, Tamerlane and another singer/actress. Phillips and his third wife divorced in 1985.
